The following photos were taken on a cool crisp morning in April 2002. The sun was behind the clouds most of the time but it appeared often enough to provide interesting lighting in the wooded area along Stanley Brook at the southern end of Acadia National Park.
The spring run off this year was less than normal so the brook was not very full or moving very fast. The stone bridge is one of several on the famous Carriage Paths within the Park. The dirt Carriage Path passes over the bridge and is part of the route used by the Carriage Rides offered in the Park.
Mark Fleming, my son (16 at the time of this photo) is busy taking photos of the small water falls in the brook. The fungas at the bottom was being lighted by the dim sunlight filtered through the trees. It is dripping a clear liquid from the bottom surface. I have no idea what it is.
As you can see from the large tree at the bottom winter takes its toll on the trees in the Park. That tree is about 18 inches in diameter! This kind of damage is seen in many locations within the Park.
This area is a great place to relax and practice your wet-belly photography.........
